2013 Driver Lineup Finalised

The driver line up took some time to finalise. Force India appeared to have the final seat left on the grid. They had a choice between Adrian Sutil or Jules Bianchi. Adrian Sutil previously raced for Force India before loosing out to Nico Hulkenburg in 2011, leaving him without a drive. Jules Bianchi meanwhile was a long term test driver for Force India. The team eventually picked Sutil, leaving Bianchi out of a race seat. Meanwhile, Luiz Razia was set to drive for Marussia but his sponsorship money was not forthcoming. Marussia decided to drop him in favour of Bianchi, completing the field for 2013.

2013 now sees the biggest change in lineup since 2010. With Schumacher leaving and Hamilton joining Mercedes, this left a seat free at McLaren. Perez took it, leaving his Sauber to be filled by Nico Hulkenburg who moved from Force India. Kobayashi retires, replaced by Gutierrez and Senna retires, replaced by Bottas.

Test times, especially at the first test, usually provide little useful information because the teams are usually testing for reliability and long distance runs rather than single lap pace. The only obvious conclusion from this first testing is that no team has introduced a radical design that will dominate the season in the manner of Brawn in 2009.

d'Ambrosio replaces Grosjean for Monza

Reaction and fallout after the crash at Spa continues. Grosjean hit Hamilton and collected between them Alonso, Perez and Kobayashi. Grosjean has been given a one race ban and will miss Monza, reports Sky Sports.

Two major car manufacturers are contemplating their future in F1.

Volkswagen are considering joining F1 in 2015 reports Total F1. They would form a partnership with Sauber. It is unclear if the Sauber name would remain, with the team possibly known as Volkswagen or Volkswagen Sauber. With a couple of podiums this year and clearly being a fast car, Sauber are team with good potential and would be a good investment. Volkswagen have denied the rumours reports One Stop Strategy but with the Sauber team boss recently meeting Volkswagen's chairmen it looks likely that the plan is being considered.

Mercedes are contemplating leaving F1 reports Planet F1. Brawn GP had just won the championship when Mercedes got involved so the car company expected the success to continue. With only a single race win since, the team has been less successful than desired and the car company may no longer wish to foot the bill. If the plan goes ahead the team would continue to be run by Ross Brawn and Mercedes will continue to supply engines to F1.
